Nostalgia

Fatiha Bouzidi (FRA/DZA)

In here piece “Nostalgia”, Fatiha draws on her love of Cairo’s “belle époque” architecture and recreates an atmosphere that may have existed in this apartment during that era. She moves in a living-room furnished with a few vintage pieces including a working gramophone and contemporary pop-ups designed by artist Anne du Boistesselin. The audience finds her as she’s expecting her beloved with uncertainty, impatience, and excitement. She turns on the gramophone, and dances to express this range of emotions while she anticipates the arrival of her beloved. On the last two nights of the event, she improvised with the rapp band playing on the opposite part of the living-room, on remixed pieces by legend Mohamed Abdel Wahab.
